Composer and electronic musician, Matt McBane in collaboration with Sandbox Percussion releases “Groundswell (single edit)”, a new condensed, single version of the track from his 2022 album and long-form composition, ‘Bathymetry’ on Cantaloupe Music.
The track sits at the intersection of post/math rock, classical minimalism, and experimental ambient (to name a few). It is made up of dual polymetric drum sets, arpeggiating synthesizer, tam-tam, vibraphone, and expressive reverb, all building to an ecstatic meditation.
This track is being released in celebration of the concert premiere of ‘Topography’ (the companion piece to ‘Bathymetry’), and in anticipation of a new solo electronic album from McBane coming in 2024. ‘Bathymetry’ is an album-length composition for percussion and analog synthesizer. It was called an album of the month by Bandcamp and an album of the year by the band Wilco in 2022.
